IMPORTANT: I'm posting pdf copies of the lecture notes here, starting with Section 3.4. On the brightspace page I'm posting the notes with the audio, but here just the notes.
- Section 3.4 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
- Section 4.1 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace) Sorry, the top half of the first page is a little blurry, but I think the rest is okay. Check out the audio version on Brightspace if you can't make out what things say.
- Section 4.2 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
- Section 4.3 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace) Okay, after posting, I noticed a couple of serious mistakes in these notes (I talk about them in the Panopto file on Brightspace). In particular, in the statement of the Theorem on the bottom of page 3, I left out the word "injective". Also, I never actually techincally defined what an isomorphism is. An isomorphism is a linear transformation that is both injective and surjective. This should appear in the middle of page 4.
- Section 4.4 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
- Section 4.5 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
- Section 5.1 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
- Section 5.2 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
- Section 5.4 notes . (Panopto file now on Brightspace)
Textbook: Required: "Introduction to Linear Algebra with Applications" by DeFranza and Gagliarda. It should be available at the book store on campus. And other places too, for possibly a lot cheaper.
Course Syllabus.
The syllabus will include information about grading
policies, exam schedules and policies, etc. You
should definitely read it.
Homework and Quizzes
There will be homework assigned every few days, and the assignments will be posted here. However, the homeworks will NOT be collected. Instead, we will have quizzes every few days covering the homework problems.
- Homework 1, due Thursday, January 23rd. (Ignore the due date on the homework sheet, a byproduct of some annoying computer issues). Remember, we do in class quizzes on the homework material.
- Homework 2, due Tuesday, February 4th. (Ignore the due date on the sheet)
- Homework 3, due Thursday, February 13th.
- Homework 4, due Thursday, February 27th.
- Homework 5, due Tuessday, March 10th.
- Homework 6. Our first online quiz, Thursday, April 2nd. It will be posted on brightspace.
- Homework 7, due Tuesday, April 14th. Second online quiz on the 14th.
- Homework 8, due Thursday, April 23rd. We will not have a quiz on this material, though it will be covered on the exam on the 23rd, so definitely do the homework!
Exams
- Exam 1: Thursday, February 27th, covering Chapters 1 and 2. Here is a practice exam.
- Exam 2: Online, Thursday, April 23rd. Covers Chapters 3 and 4 and 5.1. More details to come, but here are some practice questions. Please do more to study than just work through these problems!
- Final Exam: Online, details were emailed to you in Brightspace. Here are some practice questions to get you started.
