A multigrid method for harmonic map problem.


The talk will be on the development of efficient multigrid methods for harmonic map problem. The problem is highly nonlinear and also posed in three spatial dimensions, which makes the use of traditional numerical methods not practical. Our approach is based on the subspace correction method and uses several energy minimizations per iteration, each minimization is corresponding to a different scale (grid). We hope that such a method can be impelmented very efficiently and is possible to solve numerically practical liquid crystal problems.
