Dynamics of solids exhibiting phase transitions
This talk will focus on the dynamic behavior of solids undergoing
solid-to-solid phase transitions. The well known transition from
graphite to diamond is an instance of such solid-to-solid
transformations; other less notorious transitions are also important
in science and engineering. In particular we will present studies of
static configurations, quasi-static loading, and shock-induced phase
transitions - with a particular focus in the transitions between
martensitic phases of shape-memory alloys, between alpha and epsilon
iron, and between graphite and diamond.
